                    Short Answer Type Quesions

■ Answer these questions in about 30-40 words each:―
Q.1. What does the poet say the wind god winnows?
Ans. The poet ways that the wind makes fun of the weak. It
crumbles the doors, houses, rafters, wood, bodies, lives and heats.
In a way the wind god separates the weak from the strong. The
strong are like the grain and the weak are like the chaff.

Q. 2. What should we do to make friends with the wind?
Ans. We should try our best to make friends with the wind. As
the wind is strong so we should be brave enough to make it our
friend. Only a firm brave, steadfast, courageous, strong willed
person can face the challenges. India needs brave people like the
wind. We can have friendship with the wind if we have above
mentioned qualities.

Q. 3. Why does the poet ask the wind to come softly?
Ans. When the wind blows hard, it is unpleasing. It causes a
great loss to the people and trouble to the weak. It disturbs our
lives. It is pleasing when it comes slowly.

Q.4. How can we make friendship with the wind?
Ans. We can be friends of the wind if we are strong enough.
We should have strong houses, strong doors, strong bodies. We
will have to make our bodies firm and our hearts steadfast.

Q. 5. How does the poet describe the wind as a powerful
destroyer?
Ans. The wind is a powerful part of the nature. It does whatever
it likes. It can never be made to order anything. We cannot
command it to blow. It is beyond our control.

Q.6. What does the wind do when it comes softly?
Ans. When the wind comes softly, it is very pleasing. It does
not irritate any one. It does no harm. It doesn't trouble the weak
either.

Q. 7. How does the wind poke fun at weaklings?
Ans. The wind is not sympathetic to the weak. When it blows
violently, the weak meet their death. Old and weak buildings fall.
Weak doors and rafters fall. Everything which is weak meets its
doom in the storm. These are the wood, the bodies and even
hearts and lives.

Q. 8. Why should we make strong houses and doors?
Ans. We should make strong houses and doors because the
wind does not like weak houses and weak doors. They fall before
a violent wind. The wind likes only those things which are strong.

Q.9. How does the wind god 'crushes them all' ?
Ans. The wind god, in the poem, means a strong wind, a storm.
The storm crushes the weak things. The crumbling houses, the
crumbling plants and even the 'crumbling hearts', give way to a
strong wind. It moves on crushing them under its force.
