कविता का हिन्दी अनुवाद
"Whose woods these.........before Isleep." (Page-48)
भावार्थ : प्रस्तुत कविता रॉबर्ट फ्रॉस्ट रचित है-कवि ने अपनी
कविताओं का विषय प्रकृति और ग्रामीण जीवन को बनाया है। प्रस्तुत
कविता में ये दोनों ही तत्व मिलते है।
सर्दियों की एक शाम को कवि अपने घोड़े पर सैर करने निकला था।
वह सैर-करते एक जगल में पहुँच गया। तब तक शाम हो गयी थी। सर्दियों
की शामें गर्मियों की शामों से ज्यादा गहरी-काली होती हैं।
ऐसी ही एक गहरी शाम थी वह । कवि ने उस गहरी शाम में जंगल
का सौन्दर्य देखा तो उसने अपने घोड़े को रोक दिया और उस प्राकृतिक
सुन्दरता को देखने में उसका कवि मन डूब गया। किसका जंगल है यह,
उसने सोचा कि वह उसे जानता है, वह दूर गाँव में रहता है। पर वह मुझे
नहीं देख सकता, यहाँ मैं रुका हूँ, उसके जंगल को बर्फ से भरते हुए।
कवि आगे लिखता है कि-उसका घोड़ा इसे सनक ही मानेगा कि इस
गहरी सर्द शाम को किसी फर्म हाऊस में रूका जाय यहाँ-बर्फ से जमी झील
और जंगल के बीच में। वह भी साल/वर्ष की सबसे गहरी शाम को ।
कवि का घोड़ा अपने साथ की घटियों को हिलाकर जैसे कवि से
सवाल करता है कि कहीं वह कोई गलती तो नहीं कर रहा। जबकि वहाँ
सिर्फ हल्की हवाओं की आवाजें थीं और बर्फ के पतले तैरते टुकड़ों की।
अन्त में कवि कहता है कि जंगल तो वाकई प्यारे होते हैं-काले और
गहरे । लेकिन उसे किसी से वादा भी तो निभाना है, और अपने घर पहुँच
कर अपने बिस्तर पर सोने से पहले मीलों का सफर भी तय करना है। सो
कवि भारी मन से वहाँ से लौट चला।
WORD MEANING
Woods (वुड्स) = जंगल / Darkest evening (डार्केस्ट इवनिंग)
= अत्यंत गहरी शाम (गर्मी की अपेक्षा सदियों की शाम ज्यादा काली, गहरी
होती है) | Harness (हार्नेस)= घोड़े या अन्य पशुओं का साज | Downy
(डाउनि)= चिड़ियों के मुलायम पंख से | Flake (फ्लेक)= बर्फ के पतले
टुकड़े/परत । Queer (क्वीअर) = अनोखा, अद्भुत । Farmhouse
(फार्महाऊस)= खलिहान के पास का किसान का घर ।

Ans.The poet stops in a forest where there were woods
and frozen lake, the woods were dark, lovely and deep. There
were sounds of easy wind and downy flake. The woods were
filled with snow.

Ans.The rider was tempted by the sight in the forest to
watch his woods fill up with snow.
Q. 4. Why did the horse shake the bell?
Ans. The horse shook the bell to ask his master if there
was any problem.

And miles to go before sleep.

Q. (i) Where do you think the rider is going ?
Ans. The rider is going to heaven.
Q. (ii) Why can't the rider enjoy the beauty of woods
for a long time?
Ans. The rider can't enjoy the beauty of woods for a long
time as he has other responsibilities in life which has to be
fulfilled and he has to go a long way before he sleeps.
