कविता का हिन्दी अनुवाद

भावार्थ―प्रस्तुत कविता के कवि डेविड हॉर्सबर्ग हैं। इस ब्रिटिश कवि
ने शिक्षण कार्य किया, कहानियाँ लिखी और कविताएँ भी। प्रस्तुत कविता
में उनकी पेड़ों के प्रति प्रेम और चिंता की झलक मिलती है
कवि ने मैसूर से ऊँटी जाते वक्त, रास्ते में एक आदमी को एक पेड़
काटते हुए देखा। लगभग बीस मील अपने कार के सफर के दौरान कवि
को जगह-जगह ऐसे ही-पेड़ों के काटे जाने के दृश्य मिले ।
असमय ही हरे पेड़ों को बेरहमी से उनको धड़ से अलग कर दिया जा
रहा था। उन बेचारे विनीत पेड़ों की शाखाओं को बेदर्दी से जगह-जगह से
काटा जा रहा था।
ये पेड़ किन्हीं अच्छे आदमियों, सभ्य, कुलीन लोगों द्वारा अतीत में लगाये
गये होंगे-इस्माइल या विश्वेश्वरैया या ऐसे ही शिष्ट पेड़ प्रेमियों द्वारा, कवि
अफसोस करते कहता है कि इन्हें फिर से जीने का अधिकार है।

आखिरी पंक्तियों में कवि विचार करता है- क्या पेड़ लोगों के लिए
जीते हैं ? चलो सबको उनसे आनन्द मनाने दो । काटो उन्हें तोड़ों उन्हें ताकि
तुम अपने घर का चूल्हा जलाओं उनको जला कर आग तापो । ये पेड़ ये
गाँवों में भोजन बनाते हैं। और अधिक तप्त होकर जलते हैं। पर हमें यह
नहीं भूलना चाहिए कि पेड़ हमारी विरासत हैं और उनकी राख कितनी पवित्र
है। यानी पेड़ को काटो भी तो काम भर ही और अधिक पेड़ लगाते भी
जाओ। यही कवि इस कविता के माध्यम से संदेश देता है।
WORD MEANING
Heritage = विरासत । Ismail = इब्राहिम का बेटा (कुरान में वर्णित)
Lacerated = कठोरता से काटे गये। More peaceful shade = स्वर्ग,
जन्नत | Mutilated = कटा हुआ. (पेड़ की कटी शाखाएँ) Visveswaraya
= प्रसिद्ध इन्जीनियर और बेंगलुरू का शिल्पकार (आर्किटेक्ट) जो पेड़ों से
प्यार करते थे। Attack = आक्रमण, चोट करना । Tragic sight = दुखद
दृश्य Trunk = धड़ (पेड़ का)।

(i) What does 'attack' mean? How was the man
"attacking the tree?
Ans. Attacks means an attempt to cause injury the man
attacked the trees by ripping the branches and mutilated it
ultimately from the trunks.
(ii) Where does the road go from?
Ans. Road go from Mysore to Ooty.
(iii) What does 'a tragic sight' refer here?
Ans. The tragic sight refers here causing great sadness
when the trees were cut down.
