पढ़ने से पहले- बच्चे के रूप में तुम अनेक खेल खेलते हो । वर्षा
ऋतु में मनोरंजन के लिए तुम्हारा प्रिय खेल कौन-सा है ? क्या तुम कागज
की नाव तैराना पसन्द करते हों? इस कविता में बच्चा खेलकूद और
आनन्द से भरे संसार से प्रेम करता है। रोज-रोज वह कागज की नाव
तैराता है बहती जलधारा पर और आशा करता है कि वह किसी दूर देश
जायेंगी। कविता पढ़िये और आनन्द लीजिए।

मैं रोज-रोज तेज बहती जल-धारा पर एक के बाद दूसरी, दूसरे के
बाद....अपनी कागज की नावें तैराता हूँ। बड़े अक्षरों में उनपर अपना नाम,
जहाँ रहता हूँ उस गाँव का नाम लिखता हूँ।

मैं आशा करता हूँ कि किसी अजनवी देश में कोई इन्हें देखेगा तो
जानेगा कि मैं कौन हूँ।

मैं अपनी छोटी नावों पर अपने बगीचे का सिहुली फूल रखता हूँ और
आशा करता हूँ कि सुबह में खिलने वाली कली रातों-रात उस देश में पहुँच
जायेगी।

मैं अपने कागज की नावों को प्रस्थान करता और ऊपर आसमान को
देखता हूँ और छोटे-छोटे बादलों को देखता हूँ। मैं नहीं जानता हूँ कि
आकाश में मेरे खेल मित्र नीचे हवा में मेरो नावों से होड़ लेने कुछ
भेजते हैं।

जब रात होती है, अपनी बाहों से अपने चेहरे को ढुक लेता हूँ और
सपने देखता हूँ कि मेरी नाव मध्य रात्रि में तारों के नीचे निरन्तर तैर रही
है। नींद की परियाँ उसमें बैठे खेल रही हैं, और उनके सपनों की टोकरियाँ
लदी हैं।
कुवि को जानें― रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर (1861 ई०-1941 ई०) एक बंगाली
कवि थे। अपने काव्य संग्रह गीतांजलि के लिए 1913 ई० में साहित्य
का नोबेल पुरस्कार पाने वाले पहले भारतीय थे। उन्हें 'दबाड ऑफ
बंगाल' भी कहा जाता है। हमारा राष्ट्रमान 'जन-गन-मन......' उन्हीं
के द्वारा लिखा गया है।
