■ Answer these questions in about 80-100 words each :―
Q.1. Give a character-sketch of Guru.
Ans. The guru was a wise man. He could foresee the events to
come. When he came to the Kingdom of fools and found the king
as an idiot person, he soon realised that it is dangerous to stay
here. So, he decided to leave it as early as possible. He feared that
these foolish people can cause them any harm. However, the disciple
did not agree. He was a glutton and ate everyday to his fill because
everything was cheap there. The Guru visualised his disciple in
trouble. He managed to save him by planning a mystery for the
execution of the King. The king and the minister became the victim
of the wits and wisdom of the Guru and got themselves executed
The guru became the king. As soon as he come to the power he
changed all the old laws of fools. Everything became normal in
the Kingdom of fools.

Q. 2. What trick did the guru play to save his disciple's life?
Ans. When the disciple was sentenced to death he remembered
his wise guru's words. He prayed to his guru in his heart. He guru
had magic powers. He saw his disciple in his vision. He arrived at
once to save his disciple. He scolded the disciple and told him
something in a whisper. Then he requested the king to put him to
the stake first. After that his disciple should be executed. The
disciple said that he would be hanged first. The king was puzzled.
He asked the reason why guru wanted died on that first would be
reborn as the king of that country and whoever went next would
be the future minister. The king and the minister did not want to
loose the chance. They decided to go on the stake themselves.
Thus the disciple was saved.

Q.3. Who were the people questioned during the course of
the trial, and what was each person's defence?
Ans. Firstly, the owner of the house was questioned. He said
that the brickplayer had made a weak wall. The brickplayer was
the second person to be questioned. He blamed the dancing girl.
He said that she walked up and down that street all day long. He
could not concentrate his mind. The dancing girl was questioned.
She said that the goldsmith was responsible for that. He did not
finish her order on time. The goldsmith blamed a rich merchant
He had to finish his order first. The rich merchant was the original
owner of the house whose wall had fallen. He said that his father
had ordered the jewellry.

Q. 4. How did he eventually escape?
Ans. The disciple found himself in trouble. He prayed to his
guru. The guru arrived to save him. He scolded him and whispered
something to his disciple. Then he asked the king to hang guru
first. The disciple demanded he should be executed first. The fight
broke out. The guru made the king understand that whoever went
to the stake first would be born as a king of that kingdom. The
king did not want to lose the kingdom in his next birth. He and his
minister went to the stake. In this way the guru saved his disciple.

Q. 5. How did the king finally catch the real killer of the
thief, the rich merchant?
Ans. The thief had entered into the rich merchant's house. He
was killed when the weak wall of the house fell on his head. The
shiefs brother complained to the king. The king accused the rich
merchant of killing he thief. The rich merchant said that the
broklayer had built a weak wall. So the bricklayer was responsible.
The bricklayer blamed the dancing girl. He said that she walked
up and down the street. So he could not concentrate while building
the wall. The dancing girl in turn blamed the jeweller. She said the
jeweller had not finished her jewellery in time. So she had to walk
up and down the street. The jeweller replied that the rich merchant
had a wedding. They had ordered him to make the jewellery early.
So he could not finish the jewellery of the dancing girl. So the rich
merchant was responsible. He was also the owner of the house. In
this way, the king found the real killer of the thief in the end. It was
the owner of the house.

■ Answer these questions in about 30-40 words each :―
Q. 1. What are the two strange things the Guru and his
disciple find in the kingdom of fools?
Ans. The Guru and his disciple visited the kingdom of fools.
It was broad day light but there was no one in the streets. Everyone
was found sleeping. Even the cattle had been taught to sleep by
the day. There was everything very cheap and they cost the same
a single duddu. They could buy all the food they want for a rupee
ie.duddu.

Q. 2. Why does the disciple decide to stay in the kingdom of
fools? Is it a good idea?
Ans. In the kingdom of the fools everything was cheap. All
they wanted was good. The Guru desired to leave from the fools
but the disciple was tempted to stay there. The Guru said: "They
are all fools. This won't last for a long time and you can't tell what
they will do you next. It is not a good idea." The Guru left but the
disciple stayed on and filled his belly everyday.

Q. 3. Name all the people who are tried in the king's court,
and give the reasons for their trial.
Ans. When the merchant's wall collapsed the thief died. His
brother complained to the king. He called the merchant who blamed
the brick layer. The bricklayer pleaded that the dancing girl
diverted his attention. The dancing girl blamed on the goldsmith
for delaying her jewellery. But he blamed the rich merchant whose
pressure made him work for them first. The rich merchant was the
first accused's father. Thus all these people were questioned.

Q. 4. Who is the real culprit according to the king? Why
does he escape punishment?
Ans. According to the king, the late father of the rich merchant
the real culprit. He pressurized the goldsmith. While waiting for
the goldsmith, the girl walked by and a distracted bricklayer made
a weak wall which fell down killing a thief. But he escapes the
punishment as he is no more. His surviving has now to undergo
punishment.

Q.5. What are the guru's words of wisdom? When does the
disciple remember them?
Ans. The guru's wisdom is not to stay in the kingdom for a
long time. The disciple realises this only when he gets into trouble
and is about to be punished for a guilty he never did.

Q. 6. How does the guru manage to save his disciple's life?
Ans. The guru tells the king that the first one to die on the
stake will be reborn as the king of that country. It tempts the king
and he himself gets on the stake first. Thus the guru saves his
disciple's life.

Q. 7. Why did the guru and the disciple start fighting?
Ans. The guru told the disciple a plan in a low voice. The
disciple understood this. So the guru desired to die first. According
to the plan, the disciple resisted this. Thus they started fighting
artificially.

Q. 8. What mystery did the guru create before the king?
Ans. The guru created the mystery to save his disciple. He
told the king that the stake was of the god of justice. Whoever died
on it first, would be reborn as the king of this country. This led the
king and the minister to die in their places.

Q.9. Why did the servants of the king catch the disciple?
Ans. The rich merchant was very thin. He was not found fit for
the stake. The king decided to find a person who could fit the
stake. The servants of the king found the disciple fit for the stake.
So they caught him to hang him to death.

Q. 10. Why did the king and the minister decide to die?
Ans. The king believed the words of the guru that whoever
died first on the stake would be reborn as a king. Similarly, the
minister thought of becoming the minister in his next birth. So
they decided to die.

Q. 11. What type of 'environment' was there in the city of
fools?
Ans. Everything was strange and opposite to normal things in
the city of fools. People used to sleep in the day and work in the
night. The price of everything was same-a single duddu. It all was
strange.

Q.12. How did the thief die?
Ans. The thief made a hole in the wall to steal the things in the
merchant's house. The wall was weak. It fell on the head of the
thief. He was killed instantly.

Q.13. What surprised the guru and the disciple?
Ans. They found everyone in the city asleep in the day.
Everyone worked during night. It surprised the guru and the
disciple. They found the cost of everything the same-a single
duddu. This all was strange for them.
