भावार्थ― प्रस्तुत कविता के कवि हैं अल्फ्रेड नोएस। इस कविता में कवि
ने बच्चों के नादान स्वभाव को प्रकट किया है। यह वस्तुतः एक हास्यजनक
कविता है।
सभी लोग शिकायत कर रहे थे। आसमान में बादल छाए हुए थे। हमारे
पास ना ही कुछ करने को था ना ही कहने को। निराशा से भरे दिन का अंत
होने वाला था तभी पापा तालाब में गिर गए।

सभी के चेहरे खिल उठे। सब लोग बहुत हंस रहे थे। टीमोथी खुशी से
नाचने लगा। कोई चिल्लाया-कैमरा लाओ, जल्दी पापा डकवीड के सहारे
घसिटते हुए बाहर आने की कोशिश कर रहे थे तभी किसी ने फोटो खींच
लिया।
तभी माली ने अपने घुटने पर थप से मारा और हम और जोर-जोर से
हँसने लगे। और सभी बत्तखें भी बेधड़क हँसने लगी। मानों ऐसा लग रहा हो
जैसे कि बूढ़ा नर बत्तख हँस रहा हो। और वहाँ ऐसी कोई चीज नहीं थी जिसने
हंस नहीं दिया हो, जब पापा तालाब में गिरे थे।
WORD MEANING
Grumbled (ग्रम्बल्ड) = शिकायत की। Sky was grey (स्काई बाज
ग्रे) = आसमान ढंका हुआ था, बादलों से। Dismal (डिस्मल) = निराशाजनक।
Beyond (बीयोन्ड) = कुछ के बाद, पार। Respond (रिस्पॉन्ड) =
प्रतिक्रिया। Drake (ड्रेक) = नर बत्तख। Sheer delight (शीयर डिलाइट)
= आनंद ही आनंद। Crawling (क्राउलिंग) = घिसटना। Dain (डैफ्ट) =
बेधड़क।
